Kia Sportage Question

So we found a car that we can afford and it has already had a lot of problems addressed and fixed. It is now in good working order, and they are not lying to us since this is from DH’s work, and if anything he can fix it himself (he is a Auto Tech).

I was wondering safety-wise how is a ’97 Kia Sportage? Not mechanically or anything like that, just safety. Would it be a good safe driver for to and from school for my 5 year old and around town errands?
