Had to go to the peditrician today, talked about kids being safer in 5pt harness...

...and keeping kids in them longer and not just recommending booster... once they hit 40 lbs and 4 yrs.. as the sign in the office states...I told her about what I have learned and she was very interested, she said she already knew it was safer to keep them in one. I guess it's just not something they think they need to discuss with parents, for whatever reason I don't know... Anyway I gave her some things to google (like the two main youtube videos and the good morning america one too and some of the organizations giving carseats to those that need help, and explained how more and more seats are now harnessing larger kids...) so hopefully there will be some more info in the doctors office about it next time I go... ;)

I took DD to the doctor for her 3 year appt yesterday and our wonderful family doctor said, "She's still in a booster in the car right?"

I was so dumbstruck that I just said, no a carseat!

I understand most doctors aren't up to date on CPS, but it frightens me that she could ask this question of an unknowing parent and they could think it's ok to put a newly 3 year old into a booster.

my pedi has never once discussed car safety. Hope those office signs come down and they'll take a better stance if and when discussing it with parents. Good to hear your pedi was open to it and interested

At my son's 4 yr check I had to fill out a checklist and one of the questions was that he sits in a booster. I marked "no". His ped questioned me and she had no idea that there were EH carseats, she thought they were all 15" (harness height) and 40 #. But living in a state that 4 yr olds don't need to be in anything but a lapbelt, it is good that she at least advocates booster use.

With my oldest when she was a baby at her 12 month vist. The pedi told me it was ok to turn her around if I already hadn't. ;) I was so clueless then. She was only 20 pounds. Now here I am rearfacing my two year old and freaking out if I have to have her FF and she is 28 LOL Yeah I am a changed person. It is funny how things are changing and yet pedi don't really know much but the law. My current one never mentioned it but once. She said is she using a booster seat or car seat in regards to my 5 year old at the time. I told her she was in a car seat still. She said that would be safer because she is so small. But that was about it.
