Ford Ranger Super Cab

Hi,
I have a 2002 Ford Ranger Super Cab with center facing jumpseats in the back. They have lap belts only. Is it safe to allow my 5 and 9 year old daughters to ride in these seats?

Lap-only belts are a big no-no for any passenger (except for use securing child safety seats)....Your 5 y.o. should have a Husky/Regent or Kid-Y with RideRyte booster or even a Britax LapTop if a tech somewhere still has any  & your 9 y.o. should have an 86-Y harness ... our Ford dealer installed the top thether anchors free of charge - the kids in my family all like them a lot! Comfortable, easy & reminds them of race car drivers  [(Carseat Data website closed - link broken) has quite a few acceptable carseat installs listed for the Ford Ranger, but no one has given any input yet on seats tht harness past 40# -this site here has helpful info on using the Husky & at the bottom of this screen you'll see a link to have a local certified child passenger safety technician help you, too :)

Are the jump seats attached to the back of the cab or the sides (as in next to the door)? Would your daughters be facing the front of the vehicle or looking at each other when they are sitting properly in the seat? Most car seats cannot be installed in seats that aren't forward facing, I'm not sure about the laptop, Kid-Y, or the 86-Y, but I am pretty sure the husky can't be used on a side facing seat.

Oi! CENTER FACING it says ... I totally thought it said front facing before  Well, yeah, in that case, I don't think there's anything can be done - you need to follow the vehicle & carseat manuals.... Unfortunately, the best thing would be to save for a trade in

Thanks to both of you. They are indeed center facing seats. I'll contact my Ford dealer as my truck is recently purchased. The good thing is, this is my work vehicle. My wife transports our children in proper seats in her car most of the time.
Thanks again,
Bruce

Actualy those jump seats are not safe for anyone to ride in.. From what I understand they are not crash tested.. And a person sitting back there has no headrest, and there heads would actually hit the glass in a accident..

And you can't use any of those carseats or anything on jump seats..
