I just got a 2006 Hyundai Sonata. So far I like it. We downsized from a mini-van. Decided we werent quite mini-van people yet. I think I might miss my power sliding doors I could open with my remote though. :( Too late though to go back.

If you have a Sonata, how do you like it long term? so far my carseats fit good, but my 4 month is about to get out of her infant seat and into a RF convertible....not sure how that will fit yet.

i haven't owned a sonata, but i owned an elantra. wonderfully designed, and extremely comfortable, and it was a bargain.

however, it had lots of constant small problems... never anything serious, but little stuff (strange undiagnosable noises, engine sensors going bad, e-brake freezing, power windows intermittently not working, that sort of stuff). brakes and clutch never lasted as long as they should have. granted, the problems were mostly taken care of under warranty (except for a premature clutch failure-- $800), but it was always a pain bringing the car to the dealer, and hyundai dealers are notorious for trying to deny warranty work. make sure you keep up on the maintenance or else the dealer may try to deny fixing things under warranty. they are sticklers that way.

I came very close to buying a Sonata. The two reasons why I didn't are the way the center seat belts are designed it is impossible to have a solid rear facing install of either a Britax Roundabout or Blvd.

The gas mileage isn't very good for a car.

Major pros are that it is super duper safe, reasonably priced and has an awesome warrentee.

Did you buy an ex rental?

We have 2007 Hyundai Sonata. I have only owned Hyundai vehicles - a 1999 Accent, 2001 (?) Santa Fe and 2003 Santa Fe so we are obviously happy with the brand. They are safe, reliable and affordable. I like the Sonata a lot - for me, the only downside is that I miss my Santa Fe (and I don't like the color but that is rather trivial...). We have an Evenflo infant seat and it fits well considering they do not seem to really be made for sedans.....my husband and I keep the front seats nearly all the way to the back position so luckily the back seats are very roomy and the infant seat still fits.

Contrary to the post regarding the Elantra, we have not had any problems with the warranty on any of the above vehicles (really the Accent is the only one we needed it for - we had a bad wiper motor but it was resolved w/o a problem). We have not had any problems w/ the dealers in either NY or NC and I could easily work for a Hyundai dealership selling them. The gas mileage isn't as good in the Sonata as the Elantra or Accent but this is not really surprising b/c it is similar to what you see w/ any mid-size sedan - we average 23-25 mpg.
