Side Crash in a Booster videos

All thanks should be directed to MomtoEliEm for the original post that included these:

Here is a link to some of the crash tests of different booster types.

Video of High Back Booster with deap side wings:

Video of high back booster with shallow side wings
http://www.oeamtc.at/netautor/html_s.../htsbesafe.mpg

Video of a no back booster
http://www.oeamtc.at/netautor/html_...2/seitencrash/Baby_Sunny_Touring_P3_vorne.mpg

(Note from me...most side crashes occur when the car is already in motion, like driving through an intersection, so there will be more forward movement than these crash tests indicate, but it's still interesting to look at!)

Thank you!!!!

No booster at all looks like that, the kid's head may just hit the door lower (but I wonder if we can find a video anyway....)

I certainly can't take credit for originally listing these videos. I am sure I got them from someone else posting them here and I just relisted them in different posts.

I will need to make sure to use the new link for the backless booster to that new link as something must be wrong with with the original link (it was working a few months ago though).

Great info Jools! I can see all of them. Big difference between a booster that latches and one that doesn't. Hmmm....SK Monterey should be a big hit. :)

I want to thank you for posting those videos. My 9yr 9mon daughter 52" 50lbs has been bugging me to take the back off of her turbo booster. I have been trying to explain to her why I want to to keep it on. I showed her the videos and we discussed them and she now has a visual image instead of mom just talking. Thanks again.

After watching these videos I go to thinking. Is the Graco turbo booster considered a seat with shallow side wings? Wow. I wander if I should be looking into another type of booster for our primary vechicle for my daughter. I'm not sure of what to do. She is almost ten but she only weighs 50lbs.

Yeah, I think the Turbo is considered pretty shallow. The stats say ANY highback booster is 70% better than a no back, though, and it is a lot better than some of the other junk (uh, I mean, those almost flat highback boosters that they've been selling us for over a decade) that's out there. The Turbo's kind of short, maybe she could help pick out a new/taller seat if you feel like getting her one? There are some cute Britaxes and Recaros out there, and the Monterey will be out in a few weeks (Sunshine Kids makes it, I think it's on Amazon already). My 10 and 8 yo's often have a chance to ride in a no-back booster in the middle spot in my minivan, but they always choose their highbacks in the back  http://www.cpsafety.com/articles/BoosterAlbum.aspx (I think Karsten was almost 10 in that picture in a Britax Parkway)

Those are really interesting! I'd love to get a LATCH booster one of these days. Does the Jane booster have deep side wings? (I'll probably hold out for the Monterey, but I'm curious.)

One question--either the door frame on that car is very high, or else that child is very small. I've paid attention where my 5 y.o's head is relative to our side curtain airbags, and it's a lot higher than that. I'd still much rather her head hit the side wings on her seat, of course, but I wonder how much protection a child in a backless booster would get from curtain airbags

regardless of the lack of regulation over what is considered "SIP" and what isn't; those videos are enough for me to be SOLD on deep wings, even if only anecdotal and unscientific!
