Is there a benefit to the racheting adjuster on Britax convertibles?

Tonight when I was putting the kids in their seats to leave my mom's, I tightened DD's Radian (tug-stop-tug-stop-tug) and then DS's Young Sport (one smooth pull). And I got to wondering. Is there any benefit to that racheting adjuster that Britax and SK uses? Man, it sucks compared to the smoothness of the one pull and you're done variety! But if there's a good reason, I'd love to hear it!

I find that it makes it nearly impossible to over tighten the harness. It'll get as tight as it can and then even if you tug more you can't change anything, it won't tighten and hurt the child.

I don't know if that's official or not, but just something I've noticed about the Britaxes.

I don't know if there is a benefit to the ratcheting but I find my Blvd adjuster is WAY easier than our Radian. I always think the Radian is about the break when I'm tightening it. My Blvd is really quite easy to get perfectly tight.

I hate it. I LOVE my Roundabout for the harness adjuster. Why does the Decathalon have to be different from the Roundabout.

Here's the funny thing, I swear the Marathon that was in my stolen car didn't ratchet. I would lift up the metal part and pull smooth until tight. Was it not made right? I don't remember the DOM but I bought it at Target January of 2007.
