Car Seat In Trucks?

CAN ANYONE HELP ME?

My dad has a ford ranger... just the front row seat..

IS IT SAFE TO PUT A CAR SEAT THERE? I really DONT FEEL COMFORTABLE. People think I am being an idiot. I really want my child SAFe. it does have the latch system.. but I just dont feel comfortable with her being in the "front"

It's not as safe as in the backseat of a car that has a backseat, but it's a far cry safer than putting her in the bed of the pickup.

Crash data does show that injuries and deaths are statistically higher to those sitting in the front seat of ANY vehicle. Pickups are even a bit more risky because they tend to have a higher center of gravity and therefore a higher rollover risk.

That said, a child in a carseat with a 5 pt harness is usually VERY safe, much safer than other occupants in 3 pt seatbelt systems.

If your father has another vehicle with a backseat that her carseat installs into well, then he should drive that when transporting her. If he doesn't, and you need him to transport her, it's not a horrible prospect. A bit more risk, yes, but we as parents are forced to make risky decisions every day.

Again, I would choose a different vehicle to transport her unless there is no choice. In that case you can take comfort in the superior safety of the 5 pt harness.
