What date of manufacture should be okay? I want to go buy a new Radian. By when will it have the longer harness and longer crotch strap and the improved buckle tongues, does anyone know? Is there anything else I should know? I'll be buying as USA Baby, and who knows what expiration dates they'll have.

The longer harness should be standard by now. The one I got from 3/07 had it. The tongs I don't know about. I think they may need to be ordered. Not sure. The crotch strap I'm also not sure about.

The DOM should be on the side of the box. Buy the newest you can find and if it doesn't have the crotch strap or tongs call Sunshine Kids.

They have said the tongs and the crotch strap will always be small/short on new seats, you just have to call and ask for the better ones (or buy them...some of us just had to buy them...)

That's what I thought too! I will be getting my seat in a few days and will be annoyed if they are the longer ones as i bought them seperate and they didnt say anything.

What's the longer tongs?? I think I can figure out what the purpose of longer crotch strap. I thought I'd read almost everything on here about the radian, but I guess not. Can you really call and have them send it out or is it better to order them? If you have to buy them where do you get them? Is it something I'll need right away for my 9 mo old or can I get them later?

The buckle tongs on the radian are made slightly smaller than the harness so the harness is 'pinched' slightly as it passes through the opening. The purpose is to keep the tongs accessible to buckle it rather than dig behind and under your child for them as they slide along the harness. The tongs stay where you put them for the most part rather than being free sliding!

My keyfit had a similar set up and didn't bother me in the least. I actually liked it because it helped me remember how tight to put the harness.

SK will give or sell tongs with a wider opening for the harness if you don't like the ones it comes with. You just have to make sure you pull the harness snug over the child's hips when tightening the harness so excess slack isn't there.
