As part of my job at a hospital, I talk to the prepared childbirth classes about car seat safety. Usually no one really cares what I say, but Wednesday night I really helped some parents. They stayed after class and asked a ton of questions. They are an older couple who already lost a child due to illness. They were extremely worried about car seats. They already had an infant seat (a snug ride) and wanted to know if the convertible they were going to buy was good. They had registered for an AOE. I explained to them why I didn't think that was their best option and why they shouldn't buy it until they were ready to use it. They were so glad I told them. They really didn't very much about car seats. I gave them some reccomendations for convertible seats, depending on size of child and budget, and they said they will call me when they are getting close to needing one. Also, the conversation ended with them making an appointment with me to teach them to install the bases in both of their vehicles (they bought two!!!!)
Sorry that was so long, but I love it when parents are this concerned about the safety of their children and don't think they already know everything.
