Could we make it a rule?

It's a great idea, but rules like that take a lot of effort to catch and enforce:-( The few rules we strictly enforce usually involve offensive behavior and commercial content.

A lot of other content is generally just too much effort to police regularly, even though it would benefit everyone to make the effort themselves!

maybe just keep a thread bumped for a reminder. Put it in a sig ;)

The thing about this is sometimes the links go to information(ie abuse details) that could set a specific person off. In general, if you don't know what is on the link then you shouldn't click it.

If when someone posts a link that isn't informed, if we would take it upon ourselves to remind the person of this, maybe we can get everyone to cooperate ;)

as I said in the other thread, when I see a thread with a non-descript link, I usually reply with some information about what is linked so others know.

Perhaps someone would like to compile a "Car-Seat.Org Etiquette" list? It could then be stickied in the main Coffee Break forum...

My addition would be:

Please read the forum announcements and sticky threads before posting.

Good luck with that one. I've never seen a forum where they successfully enforced that one. Though I have seen forums where if you didn't read and follow the rules ahead of time, they quickly and brutally added a new orifice to the offender's back side, if you know what I mean. Seemed pretty effective at preventing repeat offenses, but probably not the best way to handle it in a forum like this one, which is supposed to be helpful.

I'd like to add

Please use the Search feaure located on the tool bar to limit reposting of information and questions that have already been answered.

Maybe if we made the announcements and stickys glitterific, they would read them? lol!

True, but this list would be more for things that aren't routinely enforced. You might incur the wrath of the rest of the community for violations, but not necessarily the moderators;-)

but then wouldn't the poster already be reading the stickied threads in order to see the request about reading stickied threads?

True.

But at least if it were there, then we could show that the information was out there. I know I've been on boards that seem to have certain rules--only to have NO where that a new member can find them. And our board isn't like that.

So, on the subject of a stick of a post with netiquette specific to our board, could a member create one and post it? Or create one and submit it to a moderator to post?

Something like "these aren't "official" rules, but they are things that make us slightly happier and make your posts easier to read or your questions easier to answer"

With stuff like:

1. If you haven't already done so, read these stickied threads (with links to the threads and descriptions of what they are).

2. Try using the search feature to see if your specific question has already been answered (I know that one is somewhere, isn't it?).

3. Helpful information to include in posts regarding car-seats:
Age, Weight, Height (seated height and/or standing height), make/model and year of vehicle. Type of car-seat. Etc.

4. Identify links. Cause of all the reasons everyone else put...

5. Blinkies annoy simplysomething, do not use them ;)

6. Lots of other things annoy simplysomething...don't use those either...

7. The techs here are volunteers. They are not paid by car-seat companies. They are not pulling information out of their behinds. They really do care about making sure children are safe.

8. ?

lol
