Since I worried and asked so many questions I had to come back and share my trip to Philadelphia on US Airways!
In preparation I bought a luggage cart for Abigail's Marathon. Practiced strapping it on the cart and taking it off a few times. Let me say it was the best $20 I have ever spent. It was easy to pull through the airport.
I got to the gate early and as soon as the agent was at the gate I asked if it would be ok to preboard since I needed to put the carseat in. He was very nice and said yes. You could see him process what I had just said. He said to me, she is still in a carseat? My response was yes and I can show you the FAA stickers on the seat if you need to see them. He smiled and said he didnt need to and thought it was cool she had her carseat.
Install was easy, I did take off the strap protector thing(lol) from the seat. Made a huge difference. Abigail's only complaint was that I didn't tighten her straps fast enough for her. One FA made the wow thats a big seat comment and are you really going to use it, but I ignored her. She was rude each time I interacted with her so I ignored her.
Install in the rental car was easy. I used the seatbelt because I ended up in a Chrysler(no manual) and didn't know the latch limits.
Flight home was even better. I checked a bag and the family in front of me was checking bags and trying to check a SS1. The agent told them she would not recommend checking there carseat with her. She told them they should gate check it if there where no extra seats on there flight. They looked shocked but carried it with them.
Again I asked the gate agent about preboarding and was told yes after his shock passed, lol. Another agent came up and started boarding and said anyone with a child under 2 could preboard but I went ahead and walked up and she let us go.
I was in row 20 out of 22 or 23 so it was a long walk back. Got her seat installed and we where soon on our way. Mid flight a FA stopped to talk to me about her seat. She first commended me for bringing her carseat and then gave me a napkin with a web address. Kids fly safe. She was telling me about the CARES harness and how great it is and less bulky. She was very nice.
I just wanted to share after so much worry and many negative FA experiences with US Air.
