I'm feeling good about being a carseat nut today!

I teach 2 year olds at a mother's day out type program, and at the beginning of the school year, I was chatting with one of the other teachers who has a son in my class. Of course, carseats came up  and I mentioned being a bit obsessive so she asked if I would mind looking at her son's seat because she knew it was wrong but couldn't figure it out...

I did and the straps were not put on right (she had taken the cover off and couldn't remember how they went back) and it looked like a three point harness instead of 5

So I fixed them and reinstalled the seat much tighter than it had been and tethered it too....and I told her she should take it to a tech to get it checked, but I kinda figured that wasn't going to happen :shrug-shoulders:

OK, so fast forward to two night ago...she,her husband, and son were going home on the interstate and a lady clipped the back end of their truck... they fishtailed and ended up rolling several times! Somehow, everyone was OK! The mom has some burns from the seatbelt and a bruise on her bladder and dad hurt his hand and foot, but the boy had only a small scratch on his hand!

The paramedics were all amazed everyone was OK and they all said whoeverinstalled his seat did a great job and it did everything it was supposed to do to protect him!! The mom called me yesterday to tell me and thank me....who knows what would have happened if his seat had been like it was...I really don't want to know...

I think this was the last push I needed to go find a class and become a tech! Thank you all for all the great stuff I've learned on here!

I am sorry to hear about their accident, but very glad that no one was injured any worse then what you described. Hopefully she will ask you about new seats when she gets her seat replaced (make sure she does replace it due to the accident).

Hope you can find a tech class in your area.
