Musings on the magical 40lb limit from Russ & Britax

3 weeks ago, dd weighed a consistent 40.5 - 41lbs for an entire month.

Did I change the safestop on dh's car or even consider adjusting to short belt path on the Regent?

Nope.

No guilt, no worries -- because I knew.

3 days ago at the dr's office, dd had dropped to 38.4 lbs. Nothing wrong with her, just normal kid fluxuation, especially since she's off/on with winter sickness :shrug-shoulders:

She's not eating much. It also doesn't help when she P-V an entire meal across the car whilst I'm driving home. :(

So I've been cleaning up all sorts of nasty this morning in the car, taking apart the regent, and washing the cover and coats that got really messed up. Not a fun job. So I've been thinking on the topics of the Safestop & Switcheroo for Regents to take my mind off what I'm doing.

What irks me most is the assumption by these companies that once kids hit a certain weight, they're going to be there permanently, so parents are to change, but not worry for the higher weight limit. I'd rather have an estimate weight such as-- When the child is over 38-41lbs consistently, then adjust.

I read from Russ a while back that the safestop works very well up to 45lbs, but for convenience or the concept that the child's neck is developed, to go ahead and remove it. So I'm not worried about using it over the 40lb limit. In fact, it works better in dh's car with the extra slack. 6 weeks left or less for that though. ;)

anyway, just some musings from the cold TX Big Country. It's warmed up to 28 degrees. It was 69 degrees two days ago or so. Gotta love the Plains

I think it was origonally 48 lbs when they 1st came out, so I can see why he would say this. I probably would have done the same as a parent.

As for your weather..I am now freezing :p

Well, I think an estimate would likely be mis-interpreted more often than a hard and fast rule, like "40lbs".

Personally, I'd make the parental decision to make whatever change was required at the specific limit and then just stick with it, even if my kid lost a couple of pounds since then.
