What To Do With These Seats?

I have had 3 carseats in my garage for about a year now. These were used here in California when we came to visit before we lived here. Hey were used a handful of times.

The one that is a 2-in-1? (20-40lbs Harness, 40-100 booster) says "DO NOT USE AFTER 2012" the other (I have 2 of them)(5lbs-40lbs) says "DO NOT USE AFTER 2010" - I cannot find a DOM on any of them though.

I havent used these in a long time and will not use them since we have enough Britax seats for our cars.

Ideas? Are they safe to donate?

Agreed. The Summit looks in good condition, and if you know it's safe and it has three years of life yet you could donate or craigslist it.

OHS seats aren't safe, though. The harness doesn't tighten down on the child, it's essentially a three point harness with the bar being the fourth and fifth points (which they aren't, really, as the whole point of points is to hit the hardest points on the body), and infants can be hurt with the shield. Plus the generally have low top slots and low weight limits.

I'd go to town destroying that one, but the Summit looks good to go to someone who needs it.

:yeahthat:

Can you donate them to a technician to use to explain why they are bad/expiry dates etc? I often get old seats from our auction site and pass them onto the trainer in my area.

I was looking because in a year I am going to donate our other Britax that expires but where would I donate? I was looking at seatcheck but all I could find around me where police stations.

there is a list of trainers some where and it has phone number, email and location along side. Defrost should be able to help.

I inherited a OHS from a friend, but never used it, for that reason. I was always kinda afraid if I did, Belle would fly out the top. So, I think I'll have DH take that one to his work & crush it in the compactor. Just wondering, on ebay/craigslist/freecycle, if you sell/give away a used seat, can you be held liable if something goes wrong w/ it? Even if you did nothing wrong, & took proper care of it? I want to freecycle my carseats not in use, I'm just a bit concerned. I know, I'm probably just paranoid, but still.

I agree that donating or selling the Summit on CL is fine. I would destroy the OHS. They are like slamming your child into a dashboard with a thin mat IMO. The 1st seat I took from a person I did a check for was an OHS. I cut everything up removing buckles, ect and used the sawzall on the shell and shield. I really wish I had taken pics.
