My Husband was rear ended

He was alone in the car and was rear ended at a red light (the other car was going 5-10 miles/hour). Our car (Honda CR-V, Small SUV) may be undamaged (she hit the spare tire). Her car's (smaller sedan) hood was all bent upward and stalled after a couple of blocks when she tried to drive it. Neither car's airbags were deployed.

I read the NHSTA recommendations on replacing our car seats (2 Regents). We'll have the car checked at the dealership for damage tomorrow. What do you all think about replacing them?

Thanks!

If the accident was classified at "minor" using the NHSTA guidelines and the seats were Britax, then I wouldn't have any issues using the seat. I am sure others on the board will say "replace the seats" after any accident, but I do think there is a point where an accident is truely minor and doesn't warrent replacing seats.

If your car isn't damaged then I'd feel ok using the Regents still. Britax is less strict than others about their seats.

I don't think that kind of an accident would meet Britax's criteria for replacement, but I would call them to make sure. I would probably continue to use the seats as long as Britax okayed it.

Check and make sure the rear door still works and the spare tire didn't get pushed into the door.

We were rearended in our 2001 CRV and at first glance we didn't notice any damage. When we tried to open the door it wouldn't open and the spare tire frame had been pushed into the door several inches. We were hit by a full size pickup though (so taller).

I'm glad no one was hurt.

yeah, like KAK said, make sure the back door is okay. take the spare tire off. the sheet metal behind the tire mount may have gotten dented in.
