Just an idea, What do you think? - Weight/Height Limits for Seats

For the girls on the board, you have probably seen those charts they have on the back of panty hose which shows the chart to tell you which size panty hose to buy for your height and weight. Probably something similar to this: http://www.sizes.com/people/pantyhose.htm

What if carseats would do something similar with an indicator that this carseat is only for children meeting the chart's weight/height/age limit. It could indicate that a seat might be good for a 30 pound 5 year old, but not for a 30 pound short 3 year old. Just have the boxes shaded in for the sizes that the specific carseat works for.

I keep hearing remarks from people upset that the Graco Nautilus has a 30 pound weight limit. Well I think a 30 pound booster weight limit is great for the skinny tall 5 and 6 year old kids, but it isn't for the heavy 3 year old who can still be harnessed for a lot longer. Having a chart which takes into account height, weight and maybe age might be better in telling someone if a seat is appropriate for a specific child.

Do you think this idea is feasible for carseats or not realistic because it is too confusing and some people might not be able to figure out chart reading.

Great idea! You mean something like this one? I'm probably missing stuff here, but that's the general idea right? It should probably have torso height instead, but I think most people wouldn't know that measurement.

Yep, something like that, and tailored to the specific seat someone is looking at. I know it would be ideal to use torso height, but I just don't think people would have a clue what they were talking about.

I've seen that on some Cosco seats (or something like that). It's a great idea, but I hate how they put a max height because people will usually interpret that to mean that their kid will fit in that seat, regardless of torso height.

Maybe we could get some input from parents with tall/thin kids and shorter/heavier kids to get the correct info in there. Mine is pretty much average and proportionate, so I wasn't sure where the boundaries should be. Yes it would be dependent on which seat they are looking at too. How could we get the age variable in there?

At 3.5, 30 lbs, dd had outgrown the harness in a Chase. Now, at almost 6, she's 55 lbs, 48 inches and has about 1 inch left in a Husky, depending on how it's installed.

I believe board regulars were po'ed at charts of this sort in the earliest Recaro Como manuals for misleadingly indicating how soon to turn a kiddo FF by height/weight. Our Como is in storage and DH's car is away with the Signo and its manual. Hmm, time to look for the online Recaro manuals.
