Why is harness + seatbelt together a no-no?

This is kind of a spinoff of the thread asking whether to remove the harness from a combo seat. Why can we not use both together, other than that is what the manual says? It seems like it would be a safer way to use it as a booster? Not that I am planning to do it - I was just curious what the reasoning is?

Typically the harness has to be removed so the booster weighs less (it's not really supposed to weigh more than 9 pounds...those extra harness ounces might push it over...). But beyond that, I think the possible forces that could be exerted into the chest from both systems could be injurious. My instructors told me that using both was a great idea if you had a young/wiggly/heavy kid, though (I tried to argue them out of it...)... At Lifesavers they just wouldn't even justify the question with an answer, saying it was just SUCH bad misuse they wouldn't even tell us what *might* be bad about it...(I suspect they haven't tested it, honestly)

Thanks! What about heavier boosters like the new Nautilus? That is more than 9 pounds with or without a harness, right?

Yeah, the 'law' that governs booster weight limits just keeps getting more and more ignored and is effectively null now (I wonder if that means heavy boosters really *don't* pose an injury risk? I sure hope that's the case! I hope we don't see an increase in squished kids from all these heavy boosters...I don't think we will, though, boosters in Europe have been heavy for a long time now... )
