Booster measurements...

I was at target yesterday and measured some boosters. I really like the air booster. I think it might fit in my three across for my dd after she outgrows the fp booster she is in now. When I measured the shoulder belt guides I only got a little over 19 inches to the bottom of the belt guide. I thought this seat was taller than the turbo booster which has a 19 inch measurement as well. Did I measure wrong? Do kids just fit in it differently than they do the turbo. On the floor at target DD was on the highest setting for the turbo but had two more adjustments to go in the air booster. I thought that was weird.

Also, does anyone know how wide the base of a vivo is?
How wide is a parkway?

I think I can fit a 16-17 inch wide base in there. I tried the confidence booster in there again yesterday. It is 18 inches wide and will not fit. DD only has about 1.5 inches left of growth room in that seat now anyways. Whatever seat I choose to buy her for the corolla will eventually be used in both vehicles and I want her in a highback as long as possible.

I read this and thought "The TB doesn't have 19" belt guides!"

So I trooped out into the blinding snow to prove you wrong. :D

And I failed - the TB does indeed have 19" belt guides. Who knew? I thought the AB was taller, too. But no. They're the same. :shrug-shoulders:

After lunch I will compare one of my kids in both boosters if you'd like. Which one would you prefer? The 7-yo (size of a typical 5yo), the average-sized 9-yo, or the maxed-out-in-the-AB 11yo?

I'm not sure about the 3-across idea, though. I got 16" at the TB's widest point, and 17-17.5" at the ABs widest point. But it's a possibility - the AB is 16", maybe even 15.5" at the back of the seat (it's narrowest point), so it might "puzzle" with a carseat next to it.

H seemed to have more room in an Air than in a Turbo, too, so I'm interested to see your comparison pics, Debbie. :)

Thanks Debbie! I really appreciate you marching out in the blinding snow! DD has a 17.5 inch torso right now. Do any of your kids have a torso close to the same measurement? If you could get pics of whichever child has the closest measurement that would help me out. (or whichever child is most willing. lol) I really appreciate your help.

By the way Debbie, I haven't been able to get the 86Y harness for this car for my son. My brother looked at the back dash and although it is a sedan it does not have a flat piece of sheet metal. There are ridges and grooves everywhere. My brother is a mechanic and machinist and he doesn't think there is a really good place to put the high weight tether anchor. So, I have just been moving Ds's radian from vehicle to vehicle. I have become really good at installing it. (locking clip and all) It only takes me 5-10 minutes to install now. It used to take me about 30 minutes - so that is a really good improvement.

CJ absolutely had more room in the Air than the Turbo, so I'd be interested too. He outgrew the Turbo at barely 10, he still fits the Air at 11 1/2.

Sorry, we lost our internet connection before I could upload the pics, and then I had to go to work. (And don't mind me, I'm just playing up the drama about the snow. I'm actually pretty excited - we NEVER get this much snow!) :D

That's too bad about the TA's. They were going to be a real b**ch in my vehicle, too.

Anyway, the pics. There's definitely a height difference, but it's not in the belt guides. I checked them in comparison to his shoulder very closely, and there's maybe a half inch more room in the belt guides in the Air.

This is Fighter, 18" torso. (He only agreed if he could make goofy faces and if I promised to let everyone know that he does NOT ride in a GIRL'S SEAT! ) Oh, and just FTR, this isn't a poofy coat. It's thin fleece with a windbreaker over it. Also, I had him put his head back against the headrest in both pics so that his head angle wouldn't change.

Hope that helps!

Too bad the height difference isn't more pronounced. :( My search for the perfect highback booster continues, sigh. I love the Air's depth, but I want something with 21+ inch belt guides!
