Is anyone using an "old" Regent with the old instructions?

Just wondering if anyone w/a pre-06/18 or (whatever day it was) with the old/"un-enhanced" instructions?

Next time I uninstall my regent to clean under it (which will be soon), I'll be reinstalling it without the recline bar, so that will put it back with the old instructions it came with. (DOM May 07).

Oh and it's LBP currently & will always be LBP in this car regardless of dd's weight will be. It just fits more securely into the center spot. She's 40lbs with clothes on.

Why do you ask?

I reinstalled my seats today (vacuumed the van out- I swear, the next time we get a new van, the kids are NOT going to be allowed to eat in it. Ever.) and I finally retrofitted my May 07 Regent w/the enhancement kit (long LATCH strap and grippy strips). I installed it LBP LATCH for my 32mo old and I'm very pleased with it. I was fine using it w/the old instructions, but since I can make the enhanced instructions work, seemed like a good idea.

Just wondering if anyone else was still using theirs the "old" way, and if it was a convenience thing, or because yours won't install the new way

I'm using my old one the old way, and I'll be using my new one the old way once I put it back in. The recline bar is a PITA and hampers installation severely in both of my vehicles, and I just don't trust the SBP as much as the LBP. That, and I think the LBP LATCH is the worth install I have ever seen and refuse to trust my child's life to it. It's the only time I have absolutely and completely felt that the install instuctions are very very bad and recall worthy... and regardless of what Britax or anyone else says, I will absolutely never trust it installed that way. Matter of opinion, of course. ;)

I am using a pre-enhanced regent and I never ordered a kit either. I do follow the new rules though and I only use the short belt path, whereas I had been using the LBP originally. I have a rock solid install with the sbp and top tether and the recline bar.

I have a pre-enhancement Regent and have not installed the kit that Britax sent me. The way I usually have it installed is actually according to the new directions (43lb., SBP/tether/recline bar) but I did follow the old instructions once. I could NOT get it installed in my 1998 Escort with the recline bar OR with SBP, so I ended up installing it LBP w/o recline bar, and there is no tether in that car. This was the ONLY time the Regent has been in that car, for one trip to the nearby park. If the Regent went in this car regularly, I would at the very least get a tether retrofitted. (As it is, neither of the seats usually in this car requires a tether anchor - Parkway and RF FPSVD.)

I have two huskies - 1 installed center ext cab silverado, sbp, lap only belt, recline bar, tethered

1 installed no recline bar, sbp, regular seatbelt center prius, tethered or installed no recline bar, latch, tethered rear driver buick lucerne - they usually have the radian, but since ds seems to have alot of apnic episodes in it, we switch it out when we go on longer trips.

Honestly I am so glad that I got in on the husky. Not only did I save alot of money, I really like the denim covers, and I don't have to worry about all this. Thanks again to this board - I was here trying to decide what seat to get and read a post for discounted huskies - called the store and after much searching, they found 2 denim huskies $150 apiece, $25 to ship both. Grandma (ds's great grandma) was already to fork out for the brand spanking new safeguard if it was the best, but I decided to try the huskies, and have been thrilled ever since.

Ds loves it, I love it, his friends all want to try it, mom and dad are "proud" of it, and grandma (82) brags about to her friends. Ds is the first in our family to have a car seat, and he just might go to college in it!!!

When dad (ds's grandpa) needed a new seat, I briefly pondered a booster and he was like "No way". Money (which he is VERY tight with, was no object for ds's safety). So you guys have converted 4 generations of a family:thumbsup:

Ahhhh, so the question might eventually pop up, will YOU feel comfortable switching your connection to the SBP via LATCH or Seatbelt (after LATCH weight has been exceeded) around the 40lb weight 'limit' per the new instructions? ;)

I've tried the SBP in my Camry. No, I don't feel the connection is as secure or safe as with the LBP. I get about an inch or so sideways movement instead of rock solid. That's why I'm not switching over.

I'm also pulling out the recline bar because it's been shoved in there for so long, it's severely deformed the seat cushions around the center armrest. 2 months ago, I had the Regent out of the car for 5 days. Not one smidgen popped out. I'm going to remove it and see how long or if things will eventually return to 'normal'. It's such a slanted back seat, I just don't see much difference using it vs not. :shrug-shoulders:

I have my 8/06 Regent installed according to the old instructions. I have a LOT easier time installing that beast with the LBP and I'll be leaving it that way! I wish our second Regent was an older one, too. I have only one position in the 3rd row of our Sienna that I can get the seat in with the SBP and it is the one position without a TT! Last time I had a seat there, I "borrowed" the TT from the middle. I've heard it both ways...that it is Ok to do and that it is an absolute no-no.

I have two older Regents (May 05) and have one installed the new way SBP w/latch(40lbs) and one LBP w/seatbelt (42lbs). I couldn't get a tight install with the seatbelt on the SBP for the 2nd seat so I went with the original instructions. It's very tight and secure. I have a third Regent (11/07) and it's installed with the new instructions -LBP w/latch (32lbs). All three have the recline bars on them and are tethered. They don't move at all.

DD1 - 40lbs - 5y10mos
DD2 - 42lbs - 5 y10mos
DS - 33lbs - 3y10mos

I install DD's Husky SBP - LATCH- no recline bar, even though it will install very well per the new "enhancements" in the seating position she's in now. When she reaches 48lbs (in three years or so LOL!) I'll go back to LBP with the seat belt.

I am using an old regent with the old instructions. DS is over 40 lbs and riding long belt path. No way can I use it short belt path in our current vehicle (ELR belts, forward of the bite, female end twisted 2 1/2 times, locking clip).

We are using the recline bar and have it top tethered. It is super solid and also since Britax said it is safe to continue the pre-enhanced regents with the original instructions that came with the seat, I feel okay about it. Just *okay* though, not great.

If I couldn't continue using the old instructions, the seat would be useless for us in our vehicle.

Using old install with ours. After calling Britax several times we still have yet to see the kit. Oh well ours is rock solid install in our Town and Country. That seat is not going anywhere. It fits like a glove with our van seats.

If it makes you feel better, think about it this way.....

LBP with the seatbelt woven through the back of your Regent so even if the seatbelt buckle comes undone, it takes a lot more for it to be moved completely out of place -- VS. the simple booster seat where you're trusting the seatbelt to contain your child AND the seat in one place.

That's my take on the situation :shrug-shoulders: She's perfectly safe in comparison to what she could be sitting in.

When dd moves from the Regent into a booster seat in our primary ride (4-5 years from now), I WILL have a vehicle with lower anchors along with the new style of booster that is able to be secured by them.

Recline bar = Devil.

I hate that thing. We have a 1/07 Regent, and i'm using LBP, no recline bar, for my 40lbs 3.5 year old. ROCK SOLID install EVERY time.

That dang recline bar got in the way, and is a PITA.

i'm SO glad that other HWH seats are coming out, so i don't have to consider the dang regent for my 23 month old 35lb'er. (yes he's thick.)

off to go and find that new graco seat :D

I have mine installed LBP. I do have the recline bar on (and I hate it!) I can still get an 'acceptable' install with it, but not nearly as rock-solid as I can without it. :(
