I would go with the combi.
we used it with our preemie, perfect fit and comfort padding for preemies.Ours was the connection but I believe the centre is the same. They are narrow and surround a small infant well and they dont take up alot of space in small cars. congrats on the little one.

Hopefully the original poster has some suggestions to go with at this point.. However, I would like to point out that a number of American members posted on this thread with suggestions for seats that are not available in Canada. It's unfortunate that we do not have as many options as in the United States, so choices are limited.

Chances are that the carseat issue is going to have to wait until your baby is ready to be released. Do your homework beforehand, and find out what seats are available in your community that will work for your child and in your car. Then, when you're near your release date you can head to the store and buy your infant seat armed with the advice from the posters here.

I too would say wait a little bit and see how big your baby is looking to be at discharge time.

I do carseat tests in my NICU all the time. Just yesterday I failed an over 5 lb kiddo bc she didnt fit in the safeseat. The straps were too high, and the chest clip was all the way down (on the buckle harness thing) and still way too much into her chin.

I think talking with the nurses in the hospital and other parents might be your best bet. I do not know what seats are available in canada.
I have had goood luck w/ some safet first seat seats that have 4 sets of harness slots. IF eddie bauer is available up there, i know some of the eddie bauer seats have a front harness adjuster also.

let us know how it goes :)
