It is the same thing previoisly stated by Recaro CS, but now officially on the recall lists:

Recaro Como All made
before 9/17/07
When forward-facing, shoulder
belt guide (previously called lockoff)
may not prevent belt from
loosening.
Call Recaro to order free locking
clip, if needed.

I feel bad for the people who put thier trust in Recaro and basically were mis lead. I wonder if the post 9/17/07 Comos work or thye just changed thier manuals to say belt guides.

interesting. i wonder if they'll upgrade all pre-9/17 como owners to newer DOMs instead of just mailing them locking clips, if the owners are insistent. the como i got as my "free" tie-over when i was waiting for my replacement signo is a july 2007 build. k @ recaro told me she would send me a post-9/17 one, but i wonder about all the other como owners out there. frankly, i'd prefer it if she'd send me a signo instead, as the como just doesn't install as well as the signo. i'd happily pay recaro the difference in price to upgrade.

I think they are only pplanning on sending out a free locking clip if it is requested from the way it is worded. I c&p directly from the recall list.

The 10/08/07 DOM Signo we now have has the "belt guide/belt clamp" wording in the manual. As far as I can tell from looking at them, the lockoffs/"guides" don't look any different on the Signo than the July '07 DOM Como we also have, but I haven't experimented with seatbelt installs to see how they perform. Our vehicles have locking seatbelts which I would definitely utilize with either Recaro seat. :twocents:

right. our 9/28 signo seems to have the same lockoffs based on my observations as well, but k @ recaro is pretty adamant that they're not the same . it is rather moot from a safety perspective since we have ALR seatbelts (and we're using LATCH until the girls reach 48 lbs anyway). but still, it'd be nice to have seats that function as advertised.

I will be curious to see if they can lock the seatbelt.

My 3rd recaro seat just arrived today.

Its a Signo, DOM 10/5/07

I can tell you all that the 2nd seat, the Como was a DOM of 9/14?/07 and it was maybe 50% better than the original como, which was DOM 7/07 .

The Como that was DOM 7/07 was absolutely WORTHLESS in the lockoff/belt guide.

The como DOM 9/07 was a bit better. It tried to hold the belt, and actually ground down when I tugged from the buckle side.

The Signo I have yet to try outside. The grooves do not look any different, deeper, or tighter. But I can't know til I try it with the seatbelt.

another interesting thing to note...

In my Signo manual from today, I noticed that in each paragraph at the heading of each installation section, it mentioned that a locking clip must be used with non locking seatbelts, but there is never a picture of a locking clip, neither are there instructions on how to use one. Its simply not demonstrated, and the pictures show the installation exactly as before.

I still REALLY worry that someone is going to sit the seat in the car and assume those beltguides hold.

And they renamed the RF lockoffs RF "Belt clamps".

To me, calling the guide a clamp is a bit confusing. I would think a clamp would hold something and I agree, people will think they don't need a locking clip.
