What about older child?

Hi --

I forgot to ask about my older child. We are purchasing a used minivan that only has lap belts. Are there booster seats that I can purchase that will make him as safe as if there was a shoulder belt available? Is the Britax the best? I cannot get their websit to open today, so I can't find out if they have seats that work with lap belts only.

Belt-positioning booster seats are not recommended in seating positions with only a lap belt.

You have a few options. The Fisher Price Futura is discontinued, but often found on Ebay. It goes to 60 pounds with an internal harness. It needs only a lap belt for installation. The Britax Super Elite goes to 80 pounds with a harness, but you do need to tether it to reach that weight. The Britax Laptop is a small, light child restraint that goes to 65 pounds with a lap belt. It is easy to intall and also relatively inexpensive. That would also be an option. More options will become available by the end of the year, including the Britax Marathon and Wizard which go to 65 pounds in a harness.
