My DD is 15y9mo and is now old enough for driver's ed. I am overwhelmed by the lists of schools that offer it and underwhelmed by the programs I have read about. Does anyone have any advice or recommendations for me on where to start? Oh, and she can't take it at school-- she is homeschooled! ;) We live in Maryland, btw.

Wow, from what I remember, here in this town in upsate NY there's only 1 option -- recommendation from the DMV. Our high school doesn't offer the class & the DMV's list has maybe a half dozen places, which must be chosen based on your residence @@ That was about 8 years ago, though, LOL -- hopefully things have changed!

GOOD LUCK

It really does depend on where you live. Iowa, for example, will not allow home educating parents to teach "drivers' ed." If, however, your state DOES allow you to do so, there's this program: Driver Ed In A Box®. I don't know anything about the program itself. I just happened to see it in the latest Sonlight Catalog.

You could also check with your local homeschool support group(s) &/or AAA to see what other types of classes might be offered.

Oh, and Iowa does allow for dual enrollment, so that home educated kids can take one or more classes at their local public school. That might be an option where you live as well.
