Bulky clothing ok for Britax Wizard?

I was searching Craigslist this morning and found somebody selling a Britax Wizard. She states in her post that straps can easily be adjusted to fit a bulky winter coat. I nicely e-mailed her and asked could she change the wording or at least tell the buyer that bulky clothing is not recommended. Her response:

"I appreciate your concern but these are straps that are men to tighten up to the point of where you can only get you finger width worth of room when you are done with the tightening. Have you ever used a britax? If not it is hard to explain to you what I mean so I will make sure the buyer knows how to use the strap system appropriately. Have a great day!"

So, I looked up on the Britax website the manual. It does NOT say not to use bulky clothing. In fact it says to adjust straps according to what clothes child is wearing, as winter clothes will vary from summer. EEK!

Is this true? Did I just learn something new?

I could not find anything in the manual either, but I know all the other Britax seats have a warning about having heavy or baggy clothing/coats. She is incorrect. You cannot get the harness tight enough with a thick coat on. YOu will think it is, but it will compress in a collision making the harness fit looser.

:yeahthat:

Britax does not recommend the use of heavy or bulky clothing in their seats. The adjustability of the harness is touted as a benefit to help adjust for different weather clothing, but that isn't intended to tell a parent to put their kid in the heaviest coat possible because it's ok. The condescending tone of her reply is pretty darn annoying.
