How do I go about doing this?

On Friday after playgroup the lady in the big van (8 seater) put her 2 month old in the infant seat middle seat, middle bench, her 7-8 yr old in a backless booster in the front seat and her 28lb 2 1/2 yr old in a backless booster in outboard middle bench. I couldn't believe it. She even had his seat (5pt booster combo) installed middle of rear bench. Her reasons for the way she did it was, easier to just put I in the booster for the 2 blocks home and G was up front cause there was no airbag.
I am new at playgroup and am wondering how to approach this. I did mention to her that I am a carseat tech so I am thinking pamplets or something. I will probably see her again both weds and fri this week and I know some of the other parents could use some info.

I think talking to the coordinator of the playgroup and see if you can organize a carseat training session (while the kids play). Give out plenty of pamphlets during the session and hopefully you can show some videos of crash tests to prove your point.

Is she aware that it's illegal to have her 28lb child in a booster? Would that matter at all?

Pamphlets are a good idea, but if she's aware that he doesn't even meet the bare minimum legally and still does it, then they may not help either. :(

What about helping her to rearrange the seats so that it is more convenient to buckle him in his 5pt for her?

Too bad you don't know her better to try this approach.

"Your 2 year old won't be safe in the seat. Watch"

"Hey _____, come here and see what I have in my hand. It's YUMMY!"

I bet that child would be out of that seat lickety-split -- either bottom out & under or pulling arm out of shoulder belt area and escaping that way.

"Imagine that when you're driving down the road just for 5 minutes. Your child can escape willy-nilly anytime" :(

Somehow, I doubt that demonstration probably wouldn't be received well. :shrug-shoulders:
