Looking for tether anchors

I have a friend who has an 02 Ford Windstar with Captain's chairs. She can't find the top tether anchors. Her manual says that they are on the outside near the door. My LATCH manual isn't helping me either.

Currently both of her children are in the captains chairs installed with the seatbelt.

Does anybody have this van? Would you take pics of where your anchors are located so that I can pass th pics on to her.

I'd help her in person, but she's in FL and I'm in MD.....not an easy trip.

TIA

nobody?

Another quick question---what kind of belts does this van have---switchable, locking latchplate?

TIA---they are moving in a few days when her hubby gets out of the Navy.

I don't remember on the belts. Usually, though, if they are switchable, there is something sewn onto the belt that tells you to pull the belt all the way out for installing carseats (I'm not sure if it's always there, but if it is, that's a good start).

If I'm remembering correctly, the Windstar top tether anchors are unusual. On the back of the captain chair, near the bottom of the seat, there is a metal plate with a hole in it. That's the TA. I think that if you climb into the third row, and fold the captain chair down (just to give yourself more light - a flashlight could work too), you should be able to see the hole in the piece of metal.

She should check her owners manual too. IIRC, you have to hook the anchor on the Windstar backwards - it was not intuitive.

:yeahthat: I'm pretty sure that is correct as well. The TA's seem hidden at the bottom of the captain's chairs from what I remember.

I thought Ford had switchable belts, but the easiest way to confirm is have her pull the belt all the way out *slowly*. Let it retract back in a little and then try pulling back out. If it doesn't come back out, then it is in locking mode and is a switchable belt.

Our 99 Windstar has tether anchors on the underside of every seat. And it also has locking latchplates. Here's a (not fabulous) pic...
