At ds's daycare/preschool (all 27 kids are between 2.5 and 5 yrs old) they send home educational/themed backpackes about once a month that you work on with your child beginning on Monday and return on Friday. When his teacher did her homevisit this summer she asked for my feedback on the program and I asked about having one on carseat safety because like most parents on this board I see scary things in the parking lot daily. She thought it was a good idea.
So the backpack he brought home today was the car safety one. It is not perfect as it does not encourage extended harnessing and could do better at stressing ERF, but the materials have the basics. It includes three hand-outs for parents, multiple activity pages for kids, a bag with car safe activities for kids and a book. The book is about a family with three kids who go to a carseat check and learn the importants have carseat safety (ds came home w/that same book last year to keep). The materials are from NHTSA (www.boosterseat.gov).
So hopefully it will encourage parents to properly restrain their youngsters, since kids only have to legally be in seats until age 4 here. Are there any phamplets available that talk about EH and ERF that I could add to the backpack? The center is a mixed-age center and quite diverse for its size.
