Best way to clean harness straps?

Leah has spit up several times on her harness straps. I've wiped them off, but is there anything I can use or do to get them cleaner since she also chews on them at every opportunity she gets? Will the spit up degrade the straps? She's in a Graco SS1 if it makes a difference.

Maybe take a soft toothbrush to just kind of get in the crevices more? Ilana just took a huge spew on hers and I just wiped it up right away as best I could.

Ok I feel like an idiot b/c I've washed harness straps in the washing machine before. Probably many times.

The heat can damage the fibers, so it's not a great idea. Most (okay, all) carseat manuals should have a section on care and cleaning; it's best to follow the advice given.

Don't stress about not knowing--I had machine-washed our Alpha Omega's straps quite a few times before finding out how bad it was. Most of us have a few "horror stories" of things that we've done before we knew better. That's why the number one thing we, as techs, can stress is to read the carseat manual! ;)

If you've washed the harnesses for any current (still in use) seats, I'd suggest replacing the harnesses.
