Toyota Sienna 2nd row headrest

Wondering if anyone else has had this issue. We have a 2016 Toyota Sienna and the headrests in the 2nd (captains' chairs) are a very weird shape. I want to transition my 8 yr old from high back booster to backless booster but the headrest pushes his head forward making it, not only uncomfortable, but unsafe since his upper back and neck don't even touch the back of the seat.

If you ever had this issue, did you find a solution?

Thank you!

If the booster can be used without head support, remove the vehicle headrest. You may have to fold the seat down to have enough room to take it off. In general, boosters should not have a gap between the back of the booster and the seat back.

Have you tried the head restraint in different positions? Tried a different seating position? Unfortunately the angled-forward design is now very common as it improves protection in a crash. Adjusting it up often helps it fit more comfortably.
