Clek Oobr Seat belt guide problems

Hello, I purchased a Clek Oobr in 2017 (from magic beans) The red seat belt guides have never worked appropriately and I’m wondering if anyone else has had this problem? The red belt guides do not let the seat belt to retract back, it creates drag. It is not safe to use them so my son has the seat belt just on his shoulder instead. He is almost 10 years old, however he is tiny about 45lbs. I’m not sure his exact height/torso height, I’ll measure him once he’s home. I have a video of the malfunctioning seat belt guide that I’m going to try to post as well.

Hi there.

That sounds very frustrating. Have you talked to Clek, or tried a different seating position within your car? Sometimes one spot in a car just doesn't work very well for a booster. Doesn't matter the brand, they just don't work well together because of the belt geometry.

If he has a good belt fit without the back, have you tried it backless? He's got a 10 year old skeleton, so that'd be fine, if the belt fit is good.

Hello,
Thank you for your response. I did email Clek a couple days ago, hoping to hear back soon. Although my son is almost 10 yrs old- he is physically disabled with microcephaly, so I’m not he’ll fall in same category as a typical 10 yr old skeletal wise perhaps? I drive a 2000 Camry and it doesn’t work with any of the belts. I’ve tried with about 5 other vehicles and it’s no go in any of them. The plastic appears defective? We just bought a 2016 Volvo (will have in a few days, haven’t tried Clek in it yet) that has side curtain air bags, would a high back booster add much more protection or would a backless suffice? I typically go overboard with car seat safety- my son rear faced in a axkid till almost 8 years old...
I have to register to post video. I’ll do that and hopefully it will clarify somethings. The red belt guides have a plastic sharp ridge that makes belt drag.
Thank you,
Colleen

How tall is your son? Is he 10 year old tall, or as tall as a typical 45 pound child?

Has his doctor ever said anything about his skeleton not being normal for his age?
