Which is the safer choice?

My son has just turned 2. He’s about 36” tall and approximately 30lbs. We are traveling soon and I have to choose between 2 car seats to travel with:

Cosco Scenera Next (REAR FACING): Safety Rating = Better

OR

Evenflo Maestro Sport (FORWARD FACING): Safety Rating = Best

Which would you choose? Rear-facing is safer but the forward facing seat has the best crash test ratings.

Since crash test ratings aren't official and can't tell how a seat would perform in a given crash, I'd go with rear-facing as it's more protective in all types of crashes on average. This is, of course, as long as he's got sufficient space above the top of his head.
