    Booster for 2019 Odyssey

We finally pulled the trigger on a new minivan and now need to buy some additional car seats. My 9yr old needs to switch to a booster. How do I determine if he should be in a high-back booster or backless booster? Any recommendations for ones that are a great fit in the third row of a 2019 Odyssey?

(he's currently at the height limit of our radian, squished in a 3 across situation. We haven't moved him to a booster in because with the three across he couldn't reach the buckle, so he had to stay in a 5 point).

Depending on height, theres a good chance he wont fit in a HBB. My 8 year old outgrew ours last year. I much prefer boosters with LATCH, and would recommend those. We have a chicco and a graco booster with latch and theyre both great.

Assuming you can find one that fits your child and your budget (there are plenty that are taller than the top harness position on a Radian), it is usually recommend to hide a HBB for a while when you switch. This helps the child learn to stay in position without the harness holding them. A typically developing 9 year old may be able to skip that step, but that is a decision you have to make based on your child.

I can’t help with specifics, but I would also like to have lower anchor attachments. If you want to start with a high back, I would also look for one that doesn’t require head support from the vehicle, as it is common to need to remove the head restraints to allow the booster to sit flush with the back of the seat.
