Many booster questions

Hello!

I have a 5 yr old and a 7 yr old. 5 yr old has been in a Foonf and the 7 yr old in a Cybex Solution. First question is whether I can put the 5 yr old into the Cybex now. My 7 yr old is average or even little small for her age (46 inches), but the seat pan seems very short and it fits my 5 yr old much better. I have just gotten my car detailed and rather than putting the Foonf back in I was hoping I could switch her to the Cybex and get my 7 yr old a bigger booster. 5 yr old is 43", 42 lbs.

My second question is whether my 7 yr old can use a no back booster while on vacation. I assume not with the 5 yr old.

The other issue on my mind is I checked our travel/spare booster (Evenflo - very light) as luggage several times. The cover did get marked up so I imagine the seat might have also taken a beating although looks fine to the naked eye. Do I need to get a replacement? What if I use it as a backless booster on trips now for the 7 yr old - I am thinking there isn't much rough handling that could affect the base from doing its job of boosting the child up?

Last question is whether anyone knows a booster that works well with inflatable seatbelts for my husband's truck. The Cybex does not work well as the seatbelts are too thick and the shoulder belt does not retract well and the lap belt won't stay under the arm rest.

Thanks!

Britax, Graco, Diono, and Evenflo boosters can be used with inflatable belts. Cybex does not allow the Solution to be used with inflatable belts.

You have to ask yourself if you're comfortable with the booster you've checked being used at all with your children if it's come back with damage. That's a choice for you to make.

Same for the five year old using a booster. Do you feel your five year old is booster ready. If yes, they can move to the Cybex. If no, I'd continue to use the Foonf until the answer is yes.

If you feel your seven year old won't sleep and slump on vacation (especially if the travel includes a time change), a backless booster would be fine.

If I can't see any damage, is it safe to assume that it wasn't damaged badly enough to be considered unsafe? It is still doing its job of boosting the child up, right? Is it the worry of the plastic not absorbing as much force in an accident if it's already been banged around? Sorry for all the questions.

The MACPS statement says checked seats are safe unless there is visible damage or loss of functionality. I personally would not consider marks on the cover as damage because that can happen without trauma to the seat. But I’m not the one seeing what you’re seeing! So ultimately it is your decision. :)

Thank you! I had not read that before and it is very helpful.

I am so glad I came back on here as I also learned every carseat we ever used in the truck with inflatable seatbelts was not compatible. I used to be super on it so I am pretty horrified. I could tell the Cybex didn't work, but the others did great.

I then switched out seats, ordered new ones and read my manuals again and learned some other things I had done wrong that were very particular to the carseat.

Honestly, I feel like I am one of the most, if not THE most, knowledgeable moms about carseats in amongst my friends and yet here I was making all these mistakes. It would be nice if carseat manufacturers got together and had universal rules - especially with boosters and carpooling! Some of the detailed rules -Safety 1st says top of ears need support from either vehicle seat back or headrest, but other boosters say remove the headrest if it interferes and vehicle's manual doesn't have an issue....trust me other moms are not googling the manual of the brand of carseat the neighbor has before plopping it down.
