Question 2018 Ford F150 Single Cab Question

My husband wants to buy a 2018 Ford F150 with a single cab. I have gone over the owner's manual for that truck and can't figure out if I will be able to put our son's car seat (Graco Extend2Fit rear facing) in the center seat, and if not, would it be ok to install it in the passenger seat with me in the middle? Would the passenger seat even be safe if that were the only option? I am already aware that the air bag has to be manually turned off but I can't find anything that says if the airbags are turned off if I can place a rear facing convertible car seat in the middle or passenger locations.

Hi. Can your husband be talked into a more family-friendly crew cab, especially if your child will be riding in the truck frequently? The back seat is so much safer and airbags are deadly to rear-facers.

However, the information you're looking for is in the manual on pg. 49 (http://www.fordservicecontent.com/F...-Owners-Manual-version-5_om_EN-US_09_2018.pdf). It's not super clear to me that Ford thinks a RF carseat is completely safe in the center since it mentions in several locations both in the airbag section and the child safety section not to place a RF carseat in front of an active airbag, but it does say that if you have a single cab, the place to install a carseat is in the center. There's a pic showing the airbag overlap on pg. 48.

Thank you so much for taking the time to look into this! I went through the entire child restraint section of the manual and didn't realize I needed to look in the airbags section. I have a lot to discuss with my husband. We do have a second vehicle that is a full sized car where his seat is secured in the back/middle seat and I am a SAHM so we can mostly use that, however, if that car breaks down or we need to take the truck for some reason, I don't want my son to be put at unnecessary risk. It looks like you can't manually disable the airbags (not 100% sure but it says it has a sensory and doesn't mention a manual switch at all) and their vague reassurance in the manual that it "should" be fine isn't very reassuring!

I talked to my husband this morning and explained my safety concerns and he agrees that it's not a good idea and we need to find something that is safer for our son. He was unaware of these issues when he first started looking at this truck but now that he has all of the information he is not even considering it. :jive: I didn't doubt he would make the right decision, I just needed hard facts to give him. Thanks again for helping me find the information I needed for us to make an informed decision! We are going to try to swing the extended cab (super cab or whatever they call it) or look for a different vehicle.
