Question Britax highpoint in Honda CR-V

I bought a britax highpoint booster for my 6.5 year old to use in our Honda CR-V, but I guess I made a mistake because apparently the rear outboard headrests don’t come off or adjust, and the highpoint’s not compatible with headrests.

It looks like I may have to try to return it and get a HBB that works with headrests, but before I do that, is there anything else that can be done? (I could put her in the middle seat, but my other daughter’s back there, and putting them next to each other with no room in between isn’t really ideal.)

Do the vehicle's head restraints have a visible separation from the seat? If it isn't all one piece where the head restraint appears to be the tallest part of the seat back, you could call a dealer and see if there is a way to remove them. Hope that makes sense. My brain fog is acting up today!

Melody, yes, they are movable, because they fold down when you fold down the seat to make room for cargo. But by my reading of the owners manual, they are not meant to be able to be removed altogether. So the only way to remove them, I guess, would be to irreversibly alter the car in some way, which is probably a greater step than I’d like to take for this stupid seat! :)

Will they fold without the seat folding? I have seen posts where some boosters fit better with the headrest folded down, like in the third row of some minivans. Might be worth a shot before you give up on it, at least. Unfortunately, this is becoming a rather common problem with boosters with so many vehicles having this type of head restraint. My Corolla has been a pain with FF harnessed seats and the head restraint not allowing for the adjustment of harness height too. I know some boosters with rigid LATCH allow a gap behind them. The Cleck Oobr comes to mind, but there may be others I don't know off the top of my head. I am sure someone will come along who is more familiar with more boosters!

Good question! I think they do fold without the seat folding, but they fold forward! So it would be like a head bowing forward— if you’re standing up straight, your nose might stick out a bit, but if you bow your head forward, your head’s really gonna be in the way! So in this case, I think the headrest can’t get out of the way unless it goes back or comes off, neither of which it seems able to do.

When I was researching seats, I saw reviews about different seats being compatible with headrests or not, so I’ll have to go back and look at ones that are. But now I’m not sure if I’m gojng to be able to return the one I bought. I have a query in to britax about about what they suggest I do.

Thanks for trying to figure this out!
