    Deadly Crash in Florida

Just horrible and devastating. There is no mention here about whether the 5 children who died were properly restrained, but there is mention of bodies on the road, having been thrown from vehicles. The youngest child killed was 8, so it wouldn't be surprising to find lack of proper restraints. I have no words, just heartbreak.

That's terrible. It wouldn't surprise me at all if several kids in a church van were not buckled in - I remember my parents being so careful to remind me to buckle up when I was being transported with lots of kids because they knew that big groups of kids often succumb to peer pressure to forgo their seat belts.

    Re: Deadly Crash in Florida

My husband and I drove our oldest and three other kids from church to camp two hours away this summer. I had to constantly remind the two oldest kids, a 12 and 13 year old, to keep their seatbelts on and keep the shoulder portion out in front of them instead of tucked behind. My son and a girl the same age as him were in the third row together in boosters and both behaved for the entire drive. I couldn’t believe how hard it was to keep those older kids restrained properly. I didn’t even have to give that many reminders when I was first booster training any of my kids. I think some families just don’t place any importance on vehicle safety.

I think some people can't imagine a crash happening on vacation.

That's kind of what I was picturing too, kids bouncing around the van, especially more toward the back where they can't be seen from the front seats as well. So grateful the pregnant woman and her baby were safe!
