Question 2000 Chevy Silverado 3rd door

I was just wondering if it’s safe to put my rear facing Graco quick connect car seat base in the back seat of my 2000 Chevy Silverado with a 3rd door. According to the manual it says to have it sitting in the front seat. But that makes me very uncomfortable, but I have read that as long as 80 percent of the base is on the seat it should be fine. I just need your input.

If your truck’s manual says to install it in the front seat, there will be a way to disable the airbag on the passenger side so it is safe. If the truck’s manual says you shouldn’t install a rear-facing child seat in the back seat, don’t. I know it seems odd that the front seat would be safer, but in cases like this, it often is!

I am reading the manual and I see the back seat can be used. It does mention the front seat if you don't have a back seat or you must use the front seat. If you do use the front seat, the air bag must be turned off.
