Question 2000 Ford Explorer XLS LATCH?

I am unsure if my truck has LATCH belts in it. I have never used LATCH before. After many reviews that I have read, I am willing to see how they work with an infant or convertible seat if I have them. With our older two, we used seatbelt installation just fine, but it seems that latch may be a better option for our little one on the way. Any advice or knowledge of those straps?

It does not have lower anchors, nor are they better. It does have top tethers, though, which are vitally important for any forward facers you have.

Hi there and welcome to car-seat.org. I checked my LATCH manual which indicates 2000 Explorers pre-date having factory equipped lower LATCH anchors (and lower LATCH anchors are not retrofittable). Lower LATCH anchors weren't factory equipment in Ford Explorers until the 2003 model year.

The good news is that as long as you can get a nice tight installation (less than 1” movement at the belt path, checking with your non-dominant hand) using the seatbelt is just fine. If you have trouble with it, feel free to post here for help, or seek out a local tech or fitting station.
