Retracted seat belt and used lock off

Hi all--I read in the chicco nextfit manual after the fact that both should not be used (i.e. both retracting the belt and using the lock off). Of course that's exactly what I did for quite some time. Is the seat belt now damaged/unusable?

Hi there.

Do you mean lock the belt and use the lockoff?

Provided you locked it after you use the lockoff, it's not damaged. That's allowed if you have a child playing with the unlocked belt.

If you locked the belt, added weight, pulled tight, and then used the lockoff, you might have damaged the lockoff since they're not really made to do that, but unless you see damage, I wouldn't worry. But if you caught the lockoff and pulled tight, yeah, I could see it doing damage. You'd see it, though.

Thanks for replying Wendy. I honestly can't remember the order in which I did it, just that at the time I was so impressed with myself for getting such a tight installation :(. Though the first scenario sounds most plausible...used the lockoff, then locked the belt. I just tested all the belts to make sure they retract properly and all seem ok. I need to be better about checking this forum before I act, not after!
