Infant base became loose

I installed a Chicco Fit2 car seat in my 2018 outback and had it checked at police station by their certified tech. The tech said it looked great and was impressed by how tight and secure the install was. About three weeks later, I checked the base and it was much looser. The baby has not arrived yet, so the seat has not been used. There were a couple times that I had filled up the back seat and it’s possible items could have been pushing against the seat. I can’t think of anything else that could have made it loose. I re-installed it and it is tight again. Can I install it by locking my car seat belt instead of using the built in lock off at the base to see if this keeps it tighter for longer? Would this be considered just as safe? When I push the seat to check it, I feel like maybe there is some very slight sliding of the belt at the point of this built in locking clip and that is why I’m asking.

Hi there.

No, you don't lock the belt.

If you're using the seatbelt and lockoff, and checking for movement at the belt path only, and it comes loose, contact Chicco.

If you're checking at the head of the seat for movement, don't worry about it. You don't check there, and movement there is normal.

I'd also put items on the floor that you're transporting. Not so much for bumping the base around, but so they're not projectiles in a crash and come to hit you.
