All carseats pass the same safety tests.

Why not just use your regular carseat?

Wendy

Because the primary value of that and the RSV appeal to me. We need an extra unit anyway and this seems like a great idea to save space on the road trip and also have a compact unit for travel and to swap to our second car.

Why wouldn't someone get this over a bigger car seat?

It's a PITA to install with the seatbelt, it requires a top tether to have a harness, the harness height is variable, based on the height of the backseat, there's no high back booster option, it's expensive for what it is, and it also has no shell around it.

On the other hand, it's surprisingly good in many 3-acrosses and if you have LATCH and petite kids it can be great for travel.

I have latch and a top tether. I agree there is no shell, but hasn't the benefit of side impact protection not been verified? What safety or convenience value does "high back booster" have?

Lastly, is there anything you can safely use WITH the Immi Go to raise the child up? Such as a portable booster?

A high back booster helps adjust the shoulder belt to the collarbone, the shell of the seat helps a new booster ride learn to support themselves as they transition out of a harness, and the wings give a younger booster ride a place to rest their sleepy head until they learn to sleep sitting upright without support.

There are no side impact standards, but there are definitely other benefits to a high back booster.
