Need help choosing a seat for my 5 year old

Hi! We have the opportunity to replace our secondary seats in my mom’s car (due to being rear ended.)
In my mom’s car my daughter has been in a Britax Marathon Click Safe. While it is a great seat to install I can’t stand the crotch buckle. I have tried it in the different slots but it is super short and hard to use.

In my car (2014 Ford Explorer with captain chairs in the second row) she is in a Peg Pegaro convertible. My thoughts are to move the Peg to my mom’s car and buy a new seat for my car.

Just for informational purposes my other seats are Grace Affix boosters (one in each car) for my 9 year old daughter. I will remeasure her since she is just about to grow out of needing a booster, but currently I plan to replace her booster with the same one.

My 5 year old is very skinny. She weighs 33lbs and is 42” tall. I had her sit in a grace nautalis which she didn’t care for. I am leaning towards a Britax Frontier, but I need to double check the crotch buckle. She is very good in her seat, and a booster would make my life easier for kindergarten car lane this fall. I have a budget of $300. Would a Clek Oobr be an option? She is going to take forever to get to 40lbs. In the past year she has gained only 3lbs. This seat would only be used by my youngest (no more kids for us.)

Thanks in advance for any advice. I plan to go to Buy Buy Baby tomorrow to test out the Frontier.

An Oobr would work. You could also look at the Graco Tubobooster LX, which is the renamed Affix. It has a 30 pound minimum as well. The Evenflo Big Kid high back booster also starts at 30 pounds.

I want to follow up with a couple of additional questions...

Are there any combination seats that allow for booster mode (highback) under 40lbs?

In a perfect world I could keep her harnessed for 5 months to a year and then move her to booster mode, but there is no way she will be 40lbs by then. At this rate I will be lucky to get her to 40lbs by 9 :ROTFLMAO:

My biggest concern for putting her in to a booster now are:
-submarining
-sleeping in the car on long ride

She does occasionally sit cross legged in her Peg, but I am confidant I can tell her that isn’t allowed and she would be fine.

FWIW we are getting ready to have a long drive in a couple of weeks to Disney. I can always test her out in the new seat (if we go with a booster) to make sure she can stay in position.

I am really torn on what is the right thing to do. Choices were much easier with my oldest since she was much more average in weight. My youngest is just so skinny.

Make sure your 9 year old passes the 5 step test before ditching the booster. Fit can vary in different seating positions and between vehicles. https://carseatblog.com/3966/the-5-step-test/

I don't know the answer to your question but combination seats are bulky to use as boosters in my opinion. Maybe try one of the cheaper booster seats suggested and see how she does. If you find she needs a harness still, you can save the booster seat for later. Have you considered the new Chicco combination seat? My Fit, I think?
