Question New seat for tall toddler? Target woes

My large 21mo 26lb 35" son is rear-facing in the graco contender 65--this still fits, but loading him is a bit of a challenge, so I am considering replacing with something a bit more shallow on the wings and moving this graco to our less used vehicle. I just recycled my daughters old seat, recommended by this group years ago, and received a 20% off coupon for target in anticipation of purchasing the britax frontier click tight 90 after much researching. Unfortunately, it is now out of stock nation-wide and Target not offering rain checks on the sale price nor do the have information available on restock information. I still have my 20% off coupon, and the sale goes for a bit less than 2 days...so I am considering looking at other options. For further background my son is our last and we do not share seats--so I will not need extra bells and whistles for smaller babies, nor do we have fit or space restrictions(only 2 seats--other is my 9yo diono cambria high back booster).

My current thoughts are to-
A keep using the contender 65 and forget it all
Wait or spend more to purchase a Frontier Click Tight 90 elsewhere
Go with a different option for my large toddler--
Diono Radian RXT AIO
Diono Radian R100 AIO
Diono Radian R120

OR THROW ME A WILD CARD ;)

Very open to your well researched and informed suggestions <3 Thank in advance for any help!

Hi there. :) At 21 months, it is recommended to keep your son rear facing, so a seat like the Britax Frontier is not the best option since it is only forward facing. Honestly I would choose option 1, keep using the contender, if the only problem is loading your son. He'll soon be mobile enough to "load" himself! If he can climb onto the vehicle seat next to his car seat he might be able to climb in even now.

Others might have suggestions for low-profile seats if you reeeeeally want to get something new. :)

Doesn't the Frontier have a 2 year minimum age? So you wouldn't be able to use it for about three more months, even if you bought it now. (And even once he turns 2, it's still better to keep him rearfacing if you can.)

Not sure on what would be the best low profile seats rf seats, at the moment. Hopefully some others can chime in on that front.

Yes, it does have a 2 year age minimum.

I'm also no help on seat ideas, but I would try to keep him rear facing beyond his 2nd birthday.
