52”, 68lb 5 yr old needs hbb

We have a Frontier. He’s at the top of the harness height. The frontier only fits in the 2nd row of our Pacifica and in the middle. We have the seat next to it stowed and one brother in a recaro combination seat passenger side. Another brother is in a recaro convertible in the third row D. But the frontier hangs off the side of the 2M and in belt mode just ties up my son when he tries to unbuckle and the seatbelt locks over his armrest. And today I went around a curve and the seat slipped off.

I don’t know where to put him. He’s so big, but can’t sit flat-back in a seatbelt. He’s also just big for a lot of the boosters. We thought we’d solved the problem with the frontier, but then we got the minivan which was smaller than our suv and now have problems. This is his 3rd car seat (4 if you count the backless booster for occasional use).

We have a Pacifica and the headrests in 2 row aren’t removable or adjustable in outboard. So maddening!!

It sounds like the Frontier is incompatible there. Britax does not allow side overhang. Is it the height of the Frontier that makes it only usable in the center? What are the other seats you have? It sounds like you need a HBB with a narrower base that will fit in that spot, but I am not familiar enough with boosters to give a specific recommendation. If the backless booster will work for him until you can find a HBB that will fit your child and your car, it sounds like that might be the safer option.

My cousin was too big in the shoulders for most HBBs. His mom bought the Diono Monterey and it fit him great until he was ready for a backless. Then they just took the back off and kept using it because it still fit him well.
