Question next baby

I have an older child FF in a full harness convertible Diono Radian. Baby will come along soon and my last infant seat Graco snugrude 30 is past expiry. We used the snugride a long time so I am thinking of getting one again. However, I will end up putting this new one in a Diono Radian anyway in a few years. Is it just as safe to have baby in the Diono convertible RF with infant insert as to use an infant seat for a normal weight newborn? And, what about using current older child's Diono (XT) with insert for baby, if it is a 2013 model? Any issues there?

Provided the baby fits, and the Diono fits in your car, and it achieves a good angle for a newborn, you could definitely pass down the Diono to the baby at birth. That may make more sense than buying another convertible later, anyway.

Thanks, older is 7.5 but small and won't be in any form of booster for a while yet, so I think we will need two dionos either way. I really like the head side wings on the Diono for an older child too. So it sounds like the infant insert has good safety ratings for newborns then? Avoiding the infant car seat would honestly be nice, and the only drawback is the Diono takes up more room RF than infant seats do.

There are no safety ratings.

Provided the baby fits (which is not guaranteed), both the Diono and a Snugride are rear facing seats. They're the same. You just need to make sure the Diono fits in your car and fits your child.

At 7.5 years old most kids are just fine in a booster. I'd imagine your child is above the minimums for boosters.
