We have a 2012 RAV4 and a 2015 Honda Fit. We just found out that we're expecting twins this fall. We also have a daughter who will be 3.5 when they arrive. Based on my initial research, it looks like NEITHER of these cars will fit two infant car seats and one convertible car seat at the same time. Is that right? I'm going someone can tell me there's a combination that will work for one car!!

If you are open to using convertibles, the Fit will work! You can do three across with various combos of Diono convertibles and the Combi Coccoro. I would personally do two Coccoros for the twins since they are great for small babies, and then a forward-facing Diono in the middle for your older child so that you can let her crawl in under the rear-facing seat. Not the most fun in the world but very workable. (I know people who did this in their 2015 Fit for two years so I am 100% sure it works!) There may be some other super narrow seats available now, too.

The RAV4 can only take two car seats at a time because of the overlapping seat belts, so no way to make that one work, unfortunately. If you will have the infant seats anyway, maybe you could install those in the RAV4 and use the Fit when you have all three kids? Good luck and congrats!

Baseless rear-facing only seats would be about the same size as Coccoros, and if that's your secondary car might not be too much trouble. A Graco Tranzitions or Wayz is as narrow as a Diono, longer-lasting and cheaper. :)

I've been told you can't plan to put twins into convertible seats for a few months because they tend to be born so small - yes? But we could probably plan to use the other car for the first few months, especially because I don't think we'll go out a ton!

Do you know if it will work if it's two rear-facing and one forward-facing?

This is great, btw. That wouldn't be my first choice carseat, but I'll take it over two car payments!!

It's not one I'd recommend buying for forward facing. It's really more a replacement for a large rear facing only seat that some kids will get a little use from forward facing but not all.

As I said, another option is rear facing only seats without bases (possibly ones with Euro belt routing for easier install) until the babies are big enough for something like the Clek convertibles or maybe Scenera Nexts- depending on what will fit more upright of the narrower options.

I'd suggest a Graco Wayz/Tranzitions (same seat different names) or maybe Harmony Defender (not quite as narrow at the places it needs to puzzle) center.

So what would you do about our daughter? She'll be four a few months after their born. Is there another seat she could forward face in while the twins stay rear facing?
