Question Use of center buckle with Clek Oobr

Hello - great forum, thanks to everyone for helping people out.

We have a 2004 BMW X3. The rear seat buckle receptacles are recessed.

Our daughter cleared the size requirements for an Oobr a while ago and we are switching to it for easier ingress/egress.

With the way the rear seat buckle receptacles are, it looks like the only way this works is if I hook the seatbelt into the center buckle (which is on a small strap instead of being recessed) instead of the passenger side buckle (which is recessed and basically hidden by the seat).

Is that okay?

The only other thing I can think of would be to install the seat *without* using the LATCH connectors and offset it towards the door so that there was more clearance (i.e. page 33 in the manual here: http://clekinc.com/pdfs/oobr_Owners_Manual_US_EN.pdf )

Any ideas?

Hi there.

How old, tall, and heavy is your child?

This is not ok, unfortunately. You can't use the center stalk for the side seat. Plus, unbuckling will be hard to impossible.

You can try sliding the seat over even on the lower anchors, but you can also install without it. Just buckle it in when it's not in use.

Thanks for responding -

She is ~ 41" tall, ~45 lbs and 4 1/2 years old.

Thanks for the heads up. For now, we're doing it without the LATCH (as per the manual).

Are there any booster seats that would work better for the recessed rear seat buckles? We bought two - one of them we haven't opened yet so we could return that one and use this one in my car.

Thanks!

While your daughter is large enough to use the Oobr, children her age are rarely ready for the responsibility of riding in a booster. She must be mature enough to sit upright in the proper position for the entire ride without slouching or leaning out of position. Going back to a harnessed seat would fix your issue and is probably the better choice for a 4-year-old.
