Car seat strategy for two + kids

We currently have a almost 3yr old RF in a Britax Boulevard and an almost 1 yr old in a Chicco Keyfit 30. The 1 yr old needs to move into the Boulevard, so now I am debating if we should move my oldest FF into a Britax Frontier, or if we should get another Boulevard for him. What would you do? We plan to have more kids, so want to be able to move them through the seats in a way that makes sense...

Will you need to do 3 across at all? If so, I’d probably look for something narrower than either the Frontier or the Boulevard.

Unless you already have a Frontier? When does the Boulevard expire?

lgenne asks good questions. You also should consider your goals for rear facing. If you have been planning to turn your older child FF soon, then a FF seat makes sense. If you were planning to RF much longer and you are hesitant to turn FF now, then there is certainly no harm in getting another RF seat. Personally we have rarely used our combination seats (FF harness/booster) as boosters, and have often gone straight from a FF convertible seat to a booster. Many convertible seats can accommodate relatively large kids in a harness so if you choose wisely, your next move for your older child can be a booster in a few years, at which point (depending on when kid #3 arrives), you may be glad for the two convertibles once again.

All that said I would *personally* lean toward getting another convertible, perhaps a narrower one if you think you'll need/want 3 across.

Those are all great points. We have an Explorer, so I could put one in the back, but if we can do three across that would be good to. The Boulevard will expire in 8 years, so I have some time on it.

I have also tried two boulevards with our Chicco Keyfit, and was able to fit them three across (but it was not checked...so maybe it was not safe?)

I want to make sure I understand what you mean...Were you able to go from the convertible to a backless booster?

My goal for RF is 3-4 years, and my oldest will be 3 in one month...

Do you have a recommendation on something narrower?

Other recommendations for a third seat if I were to go three across with a Chicco Keyfit 30 and the Britax Boulevard? What would be a good third seat for a toddler FF?
