New combo seat recommendations

I love the pinnacle we have for DS but he is very tall with a long torso so it was my only option to keep him harnessed. I'd planned on getting one for DD1 but now it just seems excessively big considering how small she is and knowing it will limit me on where it can be placed due to the his pinnacle. She will be 5 in April and was a preemie and still tiny for her age. She's currently still rf (probably could until age 8 at this rate😆)but her seat is expiring soon so I figured I would just turn her around at that time. I love Britax seats for their ease of use and every time I've gotten a different brand I've been disappointed aside from Recaro.... but I'm trying to be reasonable here since DD1 really has no need for such a tall seat. I am really clueless on combo seats since we've just moved into this phase recently. What other combo seats are easy to use- install, harness adjuster, etc.? Price is no factor.

Honestly the Britax click tight combination seats are really the winners as far as ease-of-use. The only down side is bulkiness (if you need something narrow) and price (if you are on a budget). If those aren't part of your decision then personally I would go with a Britax Frontier or Pinnacle.

(I really liked our Recaro Performance Sport too, but unfortunately Recaro has stopped selling car seats in the US.)

ETA: Chicco has a new combination seat coming out, supposedly sometime in first quarter 2018. If you can wait a bit you might want to see how people like that before you buy something.

I have a Frontier ClickTight, and love how easy it is to install. When I first got it, the ClickTight installation mechanism was so exciting to me that I was sorry I didn't have to move the seat more often (even though it is heavy to carry). We're using it in booster mode now and are able to get a good seatbelt fit, but I've heard that's not always the case (the seat is on one of the captain's chairs in our 2006 Odyssey).

Do you know if a pinnacle and frontier would fit next to each other 3rd row 2018 odyssey? I'm pretty sure pinnacle nor advocate would fit next to each other due to the "airbags", correct?
We had a performance sport as well and I loved it but DS outgrew the harness so it's being used as booster in DH car. I wanted to get one for DD1 but couldn't find any when I looked...now I know why! What was the reasoning behind no more US sales? Can they be imported?

If you really want the ClickTight but your kid is tiny and you don’t want the bulk, why not get a ClickTight convertible?

This is an interesting idea! You won't save a ton of side-to-side space, but the convertibles are smaller than the combination seats. As for putting two side-by-side in the third row of an Odyssey, I doubt that would work but I don't know for sure. Now I think you could get both back there if they were both outboard, but one center and another next to it would be tough.

I don't know why Recaro stopped selling seats here. I don't think they make those models for other markets so importing isn't an option (besides the fact that an imported seat wouldn't have the labeling required of seats sold in the US and you might break state laws to use it).

I would totally do that if I had another child to pass it down to but dd2 already has a convertible and I already have another one for when the baby outgrows her bucket :-\ I do plan to let dd1 ride in the baby's convertible until she needs it, but figured since she will be 5 soon it was silly to not buy a ff only seat that she could then booster in as well. I suppose if I did get her a convertible then I would just buy her a dedicated booster when she was ready to move up? She is also pretty immature for her age and has emotional and behavioral issues so she likely won't booster anytime soon anyway.

They will both be outboard so I suppose it doesn't really matter on space saving... was just thinking of being able to configure seats in more than one way if needed :)

You could put the harness back in the Recaro seat and buy your DS a dedicated booster for the other car. Most find them easier to buckle.
