Mifold grab-and-go car booster seat question

I'm trying to find more information on this booster seat.
Someone in my neighbourhood is selling one. Are they safe? Are they for older children? My DD is almost 7 years old and is petite and slim. She is a carseat but will shortly be needing a booster seat.
What are your thoughts?
Thanks in advance.

Hi,

I have yet to see good fit from this product. I've seen fit ranging from barely acceptable to dangerously poor (mostly the latter.) Fit depends on vehicle and child, so it's not a good travel choice; you wouldn't know ahead of time if the fit will work or not. In addition there's some concern about the way the belt is routed which may increase the risk of injury if the child slides under the belt. In addition many kids find it uncomfortable, leading to slouching in a lot of cases. Also, some kids find it difficult to fasten on their own.

I would not personally choose this product for my child in any circumstance. If you need a travel booster I'd suggest the Bubblebum as a portable alternative. As an everyday product for a new booster rider I'd suggest a high backed booster instead as it will provide extra support for a child learning to sit without a harness.

I don't have personal experience with it, but have heard mixed reviews about belt fit (here's one https://carseatblog.com/38680/mifold-grab-and-go-booster-review-honey-they-shrunk-the-booster/). It seems like a good solution when portability is important, but doesn't strike me as a great option as an everyday booster because there seem to be a lot of parts to fiddle with. I'm willing to be educated though ;-)

In terms of safety, it has to pass the same standard as other booster seats, so at least under testing conditions, it performs as well as other boosters.

Crash testing has no relation to belt fit on a real child, though, which is why checking individual fit of a booster is so important. And this product, in my experience and that of many others, is not a good bet to provide good fit (IIHS said they couldn't rate it as it's not a typical booster which is... Interesting.)

Thanks, is the Bubblebum approved to use in Canada?

No, it isn't. Sorry, missed the subforum.

Harmony makes a lightweight and compact booster that's available in Canada (I think as the Youth Booster) and that's a good alternative for carpools or travel.
